Located in historic downtown Nauvoo, across from the Temple, The Woodruff Hotel is a landmark in the City of Joseph. This classic hotel in the Temple House Building is named after one of Nauvoo's distinguished early residents and the fourth President of the Mormon Church, Wilford Woodruff.

In 1871, John Engler had the building constructed for use as a hotel, complete with food, lodging, and a feed stable for the horses. The curved window design was taken from the old Nauvoo Temple bell tower and thus the building was always called "The Temple House." The hotel recently closed its doors for a major renovation. This spring, the Woodruff Hotel re-emerges, stunningly restored with unique ambiance and distinctive luxury.
